Nanotechnology cheapen construction of solar panels

Thanks to progress in the work of nanotechnology, solar panels can now be available to many more families who want to maximize the energy of sunlight to convert it into electrical energy.

Recall that so far have been constructed with silicon solar cells, and are modified with chemicals by what is called a process of doping and generates the driving force necessary to extract energy from them.

Everything indicated that this process could not stand any kind of material, but researchers at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and the University of California, have made a remarkable discovery which would enhance the efficiency of photovoltaics by allowing the use of virtually any material semiconductor as metal oxides, sulfides, phosphides, which are abundant and are so much cheaper.

This has been achieved by applying an electric field instead of chemistry. The approach is not new, but until now the existing electrode designs were inconsistent with the photocells.

“Graphene was the inspiration,” explains one of the leaders of the project, Will Regan. Graphene is a highly conductive material, comprising a sheet of carbon with a single atom thick and can be influenced with the game of electric fields. Thus, scientists have described two ways of constructing the electrodes, one with and one graphene itself with very narrow nanowires.

Nano-paper power, the future of the electrical insulation

As we know, the electrical isolation is achieved by covering a part of an electrical installation with a material that is not electrically conductive and which resists the passage of current through the element which covers and holds it in its path along the driver.

These materials such as ceramics, polymer types, micas, varnishes, textiles and electrical papers, they are known as electrical insulators and thanks to nanotechnology could now withstand higher voltages and have more life.

In Mexico, researchers at the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, and the National Polytechnic Institute, are working on the idea of getting electrical papers nano-tech enhanced by introducing the material nano-particles that alter the electrical characteristics of the paper, which supports higher voltages and reduces the rate of aging.

Note that in other countries, research has been directed toward obtaining and Nano-polymers nano-ceramics, but these Mexican institutions become the first to research and coining the term electrical Nano-paper.

HTC will release a 5-inch smartphone

When we talk about gadgets we do not refer only to devices with strangers most varied applications, we can also find devices like the one we present below.

The Samsung Galaxy Note came exactly a year ago and was a great success, although it was a very risky bet for Samsung because of the large screen size of this terminal. But now things have changed and many terminals with screens bigger and bigger, without being tablets.

HTC adds to this trend and have stated that they plan to launch its own terminal of no less than 5 inches which will display Full HD with 1080p resolution.

Although we must say that will not exactly 1920 x 1080, but a little less, exactly 1794 x 1080, so as to leave the 126 vertical lines needed by Android navigation buttons. Currently there are known more features but they sure are a lot more interesting.

Data specs and images of the Nikon 1 J2

Have leaked some specs and several images of the rumored Nikon 1 J2 and Nikkor 11-27.5 that will accompany it.

A week ago the rumor jumped on the chance that Nikon would announced a new version of Nikon 1 J1. You had to wait long to see the first images and even meet the first data on this camera, but so far has not yet been formally introduced. Aesthetically it seems that the Nikon 1 J2 will be identical to its predecessor, especially in the front. In the rear of the camera you can see slight changes that are mainly in the form of buttons, while maintaining the same provision.

In terms of specifications, the camera will have a CX-format sensor (probably the same size as that of the J1, 13.2 x 8.8 mm) with a resolution of 10.15 megapixels and an integrated auto-focus system based on the phase difference. It will also have an image processor EXPEED3, maintain electronic type shutter with speeds of 30 to 1/16000 seconds and a sensitivity range between 100 and 3,200 ISO. This Nikon camera without mirror can make burst shooting at 10 frames per second, but may reach 60 frames per second and record video in HD quality (1920 x 1080 60i) and H.264/MPEG-4 AVC compression format MOV.

The new Nikon J2 will have a 3-inch LCD screen and 920,000 points (twice the screen definition of J1) and a slot for SD memory cards, SDHC and SDXC. In addition, it has creative ways to have eight panoramic photographs, selective coloring, backlight photos, night scenes, etc. and four exposure modes. As might be expected to see the pictures, the dimensions of the new camera are exactly the same as the previous model, 106 x 61 x 29.8 mm and its weight has increased by only three grams: 237 versus the 234 of the 1.

In addition to several images from the camera in different finishes, we also have leaked images of the new f/3.5-5.6 Nikkor 11 to 27.5 mm. This target will serve as the new J2 kitero replace the Nikkor 10-30 mm accompanying the Nikon 1 J1 and V1. The equivalent focal length of this lens, 35 mm format, is 30-75 mm. At the moment we know only this new optical data, although it seems to be at least a white version and the other in black, to go to match the finish of the camera. So far you have not seen in red, but did have 10-30 mm version in this color too.

Types and functions of OLED or Organic Light-Emitting Diode TV

Let's go back to CES 2012 when it was presented the LG 55-inch OLED TV. That was an important day that has changed the way people watch TV and that gave the world the opportunity to enjoy breathtaking images, displayed in a quality never before experienced.

Now the OLED is a reality and the screen can get into our homes. But what are the technologies that allow this LG TV performance ever seen? How does this device work? OLED, what we mean?

OLED (Organic Light-Emitting Diode) panels emit light when electric current passes through them, the cells of an LCD, however, require a source of external light on the back. Because OLEDs do not require backlighting have a great energy efficiency, lower energy consumption and design exceptionally thin.

OLEDs boast images of superiority and unrivaled offer really deep blacks. The result, of course, is a better visual experience.

Add a white pixel all RGB and get better colors.

There are two types of TV OLED viz:- RGB OLED and WRGB OLED. The latter technology is used in the OLED TV from LG. The difference between the two affects the overall viewing experience.

To form a color it must be used three (red, one green and one blue) mixed together. In this particular blend each one can have arbitrary intensity, from fully off to fully on. Adding a white pixel to the RGB system is obtained WRGB.

Increase the brightness and colors are more accurate. (Look below the balloons, the color displayed in the side WRGB is far better than what we find in the side RGB).

The colors are more natural.

Addition to the extra pixel white, LG has added the Color Refiner technology that improves the color displayed in this way on TV, which supports a wider range of colors, is so realistic and the natural world around us.

Less distortion - Greater viewing angle

The OLED coupled WRGB - Color Refiner then allows for accuracy and consistency of color from all angles. You can watch TV on the couch, lying in bed across the room ... from anywhere and without any distortion!

Now, the LG OLED is a reality and you know what technology you choose.

SAMSUNG GT-B5330, an economic smartphone

With both smartphone market it is not surprising that companies begin to diversify their products and offer variants for all types of customers. And for every budget.

As smartphones continue to dominate sales, its components are also cheaper and because of that companies can offer lower-priced versions.

Such is the case of the new Samsung GT-B5330, which seems to be a smartphone from lower middle class. As rumored, could lead the Android OS Ice-cream Sandwich. Also, incorporate a touch screen 320 x 240 pixels with a QWERTY keyboard to make it easier to send messages.

Regarding the technical aspect, it could incorporate a 849 MHz processor, 4 gigabytes of storage, WiFi, Bluetooth and a 2 megapixel camera.

Clearly, these specifications Samsung aims to provide an affordable phone with some interesting features, but well below what they offer today's latest smartphones. The new phone is meant to be released in some Asian countries.

With so much variety of models on the market, it is good to see that not only thinks of higher income levels and also takes into account people with lower purchasing power. With their cons and benefits, the new Samsung GT-B5330 is probably a good choice at a price much lower than you are accustomed.

Economic tablets, do they deserve punishment?

A high quality tablet, like the iPhone or the Samsung GalaxyTab is an option that any techie could want. However, not everyone can invest the money they cost, which is usually close to 400 euros, even surpassing them. Of course you can always find cheaper options.

On the one hand we have the 7-inch tablets. Apple has not yet been launched to put yours on the market (although it has been rumored on the output of an iPad Mini for months), Samsung itself. If the size is not a problem for you, then it is always a good choice for a high quality tablet priced a little cheaper.

Then there is the possibility of using lesser known brands. The quality is usually slightly lower, but often meet the needs of those who are not too demanding.

Recommended for you:

iBall Slide, 7 inches Tablet for $ 295

The question is, these tablets are worth economic or is preferable to the bank until you can buy a good one. Well, as always in regard to technological issues, depends on what you will give. Not the same check from time to time mail and online media to give a tablet professional use.

The truth is that a large number of tablet users only want to access email, read some ebook (but not very often) and get a web page. And for this with some of those found in the market for just over 100 euros is plenty.

Now if you take to stop all the possibilities offered by a tablet, it is preferable that we invest a little stronger.

A gadget that measures glucose

This is the IBG Star, which can be added to the iPod or iPhone and remote monitoring by a physician or a family can know the blood sugar levels that records a patient with diabetes. You only need six seconds to be detected and can be a great help for children with this disease.

IBG Star is placed on the Apple devices (iPhone and iPod both) to know instantly the small sugar levels while at school or in the park, but can also be used by adults in the office or on the market.

This meter is a type of USB is inserted in the same place as other devices for devices in the signature of the block, i.e. at the bottom, where it is placed in a battery charger. Sends real-time data shows a doctor or a member of the family and avoid a lack of control in sugar, preventing lead to diabetic coma or even death.

This device was unveiled at the 72 degree Scientific Session of the American Association of Diabetes. Sanofi members were responsible for display and has already begun shipping in the U.S. and some European countries. They said it is ideal for children with diabetes 1 because parents can not control them but with them, can measure glucose levels every three hours. The difference of IBG Star in relation to other similar devices is that it sends the results immediately to a recipient chosen in advance.

On the device should be inserted after putting on tapes reactive blood obtained by pricking with a small lancet. Then, reports the blood sugar levels, keep the data and sends it to the doctor or family you want.

The Android tablet for children

It is called Gajah tablet (still have not posted the official name) and is devoted entirely to the smallest of the family. This shows that the market for tablets is flooded with content, news, bigger screens, more powerful devices and light because it is a sector that is in significant expansion and manufacturers do not want to miss this opportunity.

The company that has made this tablet for children is called Gajah International and Singapore. While not finished developing it, you know that has a 7-inch panel, Android operating system 4, the interface is simple, it has bright colors, large icons, a core processor at 1 GHz with 512 MB of memory RAM and 32 GB internal storage.

It was presented at the last fair Computex, the largest in the Asian continent in relation to technology. Also showed a digital book reader with touch screen and 6-inch electronic ink, as well as a 9.7-inch tablet with Ice Cream Sandwich.

However, what caught the attention was this Gajah for children, which for now does not have a name beyond the design, i.e., known as MD7008. The prototype presented in Taiwan has funds of screen fun with designs and offers supervision by parents, so they can monitor the content they access their children.

The buttons are large and easy to press and the housing is protected with a rubber shock. The hardware is taking shape but still the software is far from complete.

It is noteworthy that there are not many tablets devoted to children currently in the market, except for two models: Archos Child Pad & OLPC XO 3.0.

There were three mobile and tablet by Lamborghini

You have seen luxury gadgets for everyone throughout your lives. In this case, Lamborghini, in addition to producing fantastic cars, has released technology products, with their own style, of course. Apparently, these four models are very remarkable for its exterior, the interior leaves much to be desired.

The first is a mobile phone called TL688Spyder with 2-inch QVGA screen, camera of 3  megapixels, video recording, front camera, 4GB internal memory and GPRS and EDGE connectivity. Canon 650D, SLR camera with touchscreen

Canon updates its range of new entry level DSLR camera, the Canon 650D. It is an update to the Canon 600D, which appeared more than a year. With the new camera is improved focus and touch screen. However, the improvements over its predecessor are really small. Many expected more of this model, so maybe the new 650D they know little.

The chamber design is really similar to the 600D. Same size and weight. If you look ahead, only distinguish by the label name. However, 600D to the camera was good in this area. The ergonomics of the whole is pretty good, fits the hand quite naturally. The controls are simple and intuitive, but is still longing for a wheel in the back as integrating other models of the brand.

The most relevant change in this field is the touch screen. The new display incorporates this functionality back to move through the camera menus. It is the function of fashion, and can appear as a gadject is outdated if not part of a touch screen. However, many users find it strange handling a camera with this type of interface.

It has a size of three inches and has a resolution of more than one million pixels. It is also hinged and can move with a certain lightness. This helps to frame pictures when we are in a strange position, for example with the camera on the floor.

But the big news of the Canon 650D is the focus. This time he used a hybrid system. It is a system originally designed for video recording, but it seems that the Japanese have decided to use as photographs. You might try a little experiment to better focus their future cameras.

Just the video recording also achieves quite acceptable values. You can record as Full HD at 30 frames per second, also has the possibility to use an external microphone to add more quality to the recording.

The sensor has not changed from the previous version. This is an 18-megapixel APS sensor. It may seem that there have been improvements, but the truth is that you do not need more megapixels. With this value could print a photo in high quality (300 dots per inch) 44 x 29 cm in size. Value is more than enough unless you're thinking of wallpapering the facade of a building with our photos.

The Canon 650D will go on sale this June, and yet to be known the price. Only the camera body will cost 900 euros, and the pack with the most basic goal (18-55 mm.) will reach a price of 1,000. A third offering, with an ultimate goal (18-135 mm), will have a price of 1,250 euros.

The price is not exorbitant for the services offered by the camera. It is a semi-professional SLR camera, and that meets the requirements of demanding fans. However, it seems not worth much renewal. The news is scarce, and primarily affect the operation of the camera, but not performance.

Nokia has already sold 2.2 million Nokia Lumia

The fever of Lumia Nokia continues. After its coming-out at the end of last year 2011, the company Nokia is working to launch its devices Nokia Lumia. Now the Finnish company has just announced that have already been sold 2.2 million Nokia Lumia around the world. It seems that the launch of the new family of phones with Windows Phone is doing well.

The company Nokia has yet to provide accurate data on the number of phones sold. In fact, the information we have on the table is informal. Were themselves IDC analysts in charge of disseminating via The New York Times, that Nokia has sold 2.2 million units of Lumia mobile during the first quarter, that is, in the months of January, February and in March. Some have already indicated that this figure is very small, if you consider that the great hope of Nokia in the coming years was practically placed in the new series of handsets with Windows Phone. However, you must take into account that the amount is powerful enough to take it into account, paying attention to two key factors and relevant. The first has to do with the limited availability of models in the first quarter of the year: by now it is only possible to get the Nokia Lumia 800, the Lumia Nokia 710 and Nokia Lumia 900 in the United States.

Most likely, the increase in terminal begins to assume a considerable growth in the number of units shipped. Do not forget that one of the success of Android as a platform passes through the huge number of phones that are currently already integrated the operating system Google. But that's not all. The first months of the year coincide with two holiday periods and do not connect with the main mass moments purchase one of the most important located at Christmas.

The first reports officers could be released at the conference be held by the company in early September in Finland, home country will also host the main innovations of the year on operating system, applications and hardware. On the other hand, you must bear in mind that the company plans to introduce new and interesting units located in different ranges.

A robotic system that composes and plays music

The robotic system designed by Wilfried Stoll, in cooperation with Festo is a device happens to be a quintet robotics able to compose and play music. It has five robotic arms that produce sounds imitating those of two violins, a cello, a viola and a bass. Each arm plays with a rope. Having heard a musician playing the xylophone or a MIDI keyboard, the system resumes the melody and fits in its own way.

A computer reinterprets the melody before distributing it to the pseudo-instruments within the system. An electric actuator clamps the ropes moving along the channel for the note. According to the designers’ individual acoustic robots are linked together so they can listen to each other.

This creation works through calculations math based on the same rules as the Game of Life by John Horton Conway.
